The only maths that matters
Outfit count is multiplicative, not additive. Eight tops and five bottoms that all coordinate produce forty combinations; add two layers that work with everything and you are past a hundred. Buying a ninth top that matches only one bottom adds one outfit. Buying a neutral bottom that matches all eight tops adds eight.
This is the entire discipline of a capsule wardrobe, and it is why an inventory view beats intuition. You cannot hold forty pairwise compatibilities in your head; a tagged digital wardrobe can compute them.
A workable structure
- 5–8 tops, at least half in neutrals that pair with every bottom you own.
